I agree with this idea. Liberation aside, the ability to have 2 people on a side in battles (possibly 3 for vs) would work assuming people did not count as objects on panels. Meaning, someone on the team could move through the other. Outside of combat i assume the the party leader would control movement for virus encounters sake. This should also lead to stronger virus encounters as well. Its an interesting concept.

Hmm...

I'm against multi-user battles, but just thought of something reading the work 'Liberation' there...  If you run up to an ally, you can use an 'assist' ability - either an attack on the field, a temporary power-up, or give/use a chip for them.  This would decrease their busting level/EXP gain/whatever,  (less so if you're 'grouped' with them) and possibly penalise you (Either cost some form of 'energy', or chip is unusable in next battle to 'recharge' or something)

Like a cross between Liberation 'assist' and the Spare-Navi 'assist' in BN5DS

I see what you mean with assistance. It would be nice for some help from a player, even if its only a small amount. However I wouldn't like the system of having a casual bonus because it seems too indirect. By indirect I mean that the assistance would probably begin to take place on the custom screen on whether the person accepts it seeing as it may have some form of reward loss. At the same time I would think people would like to have more teamwork in the battle itself. I also see the downside of having multiple human players in a battle due to how hectic it will appear. I suppose it just depends on how the scenario plays out. But one thing would have to be certain with co-op battles. It would require some form of limiter on what battles can be joined. Its likely that it would only be for virus battles but to clarify, I really wouldn't like to see overpowered navis joining in the boss battles of weaker navis. Boss battle wise, I would like to see multiple people battle "afterstory" boss navis like possibly an unlawfully powerful version of Bass or something of the sort.

You could have a powerful version of your party member's navi chips that would be equivalent to what damage any given player would likely do.

i had the thaught. mabe if there where multiple platforms that the battles where going on. then if need be there could be battle chips that let you jump temporarily to a ally's platform or targeting chips in general would allow you to target them. that way it is not too hectic fighting, but then it also has the ability to aid your companions in battle. who knows, mabe large bosses coulds even span across multiple platforms to allow for everyone to do damage. smaller bosses can jump to different ones. while viruses are trapped on a single platform.
